A Brick In Time

Commemorative Heritage Walk

Programs & Services

Purple Woods Heritage Hall, located at the Purple Woods Conservation Area, is an initiative to create a natural areas meeting place and education centre to embrace and protect critical habitat in a location accessible to the surrounding local community.  This 41 acre property, located on the Oak Ridges Moraine, is home to a large and actively tapped 150 year old sugar maple forest and our annual Maple Syrup Festival.  After March when the Festival closes and the sap is finished running, we say good bye to, on average, 12,000 visitors, then things become much quieter.  We become a host for spring and fall migratory song birds, summer monarch butterflies and beautiful fall colours which make us an all season destination.  We offer a great place to hike, year round, with our Sugar Shack and Discovery Walk trails.

Heritage Hall, our event facility, sits on the crest of the Moraine and was constructed from recycled wood materials in the spirit of a rural Ontario barn.  We have embarked on a prominent “Heritage Walk” paved with bricks inscribed with the names of people our visitors want to remember or names of people in our community that we want to remember.

brickCentral Lake Ontario Conservation has made these bricks available to families and individuals wishing to honour someone special.  The minimum contribution for each commemorative brick is $100.  Heritage bricks measure 9 inches square (22.5cm square)  and are engraved using a technology that will not fade, chip, oxidize or peel.

All proceeds from the Heritage Brick program will benefit the education and outreach programs provided by Central Lake Ontario Conservation at Purple Woods Conservation Area, including support for our annual Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival.

Brick orders will be taken on a continuous basis.  Bricks will be placed once the minimum order quantity has been met.  You will be notified when your brick has been placed in Heritage Walk. Each Brick will be engraved with the name of your choice and offers 4 lines of wording, maximum 10 characters per line (characters include spaces and any punctuation). Please make sure your engraving information is spelled correctly and print in the boxes provided.
